Ninjas Ski as They Please

Ninjas Ski as They Please

The girls and I love to go skiing and on the way up we tend to listen to either some Gilles Vigneault’s Un Dimanche à Kyoto, The High School Musical 3 sound track or my personal favourite the Barenaked Ladies kids album SnackTime. This week we made our way up to Vallée Bleue listening to Snacktime so it became the soundtrack in my to my whole ski day.

When I saw “Thing 1″ get off the chairlift, all I could think of was Ninjas.  Stylish blond Ninjas, but still Ninjas!

The lyrics to the song are truly awesome:

I woke up this morning and everything was different
Something was strange in the air
I woke up this morning and everything was different
I knew that the Ninjas had been there

I looked all around my bedroom
Underneath the dresser
Behind the bed, but nothing could be found
There was nothing left behind them
No way that I could find them
No fingerprints or crumbs on the ground.

The Ninjas are deadly and silent
They’re also unspeakably violent
They speak Japaneses; do whatever they please,
And sometimes they vacation in Ireland.

The Ninjas are deadly and silent
They’re also unspeakably violent
They speak Japanese; do whatever they please,
And if you tear off their masks, they’ll be smiling.

Special Thanks to Gracenote  for not letting me copy these lyrics and force me to relisten to the song on repeat (many many many times) in order to post them here and possibly give the Barenaked Ladies a better mention. (#WhenDRMKillsMarketing&FairUse)
NOTE: Gracenote does not get a free link or tag due to their obvious “suckage” in this matter.

Valois Bay Panoramas

Valois Bay Fall Panoramas
I was reading a Scott Kelby book on Safari online books and in one of the chapters he talks extensively about Adobe’s Photomerge feature. A feature I’ve been using for a while but it wasn’t until I read Scott’s book that I realised I have been missing out on a great trick.

Photo-Crooz with Les Boys

Croozing the Lakeshore
The weather was fantastic this weekend and Sunday was particularly sunny. I’ve been itching to get out on the bike for most of the summer and when Les Boys started to get a little restless, I packed’em into the Croozer, hitched it up and went for a very leisure stroll along Pointe-Claire’s Bord-du-Lac. Of Course I wasn’t wearing nearly enough spandex and lycra to meet the Lakeshore Sunday Cyclists Standards, but my cargo shorts and my vans did just fine and Les Boys looked fantastic in their Marvel T’s.

Says the Spider to the Wasp

Says the Spider to the Wasp
We have a lot wasps around the house this time of year. It just a good think that we also have quite a few spiders to tackle the issue head on with us. Now I only wish those dragonflies would come back and help take care of the mosquitoes.

EYE OK!

Eye OK

My eye is OK.

Of course I knew that already. But the optometrist was fitting me with some new daily lenses and because I have a astigmatism in my left eye my lens have to be weighted in a specific direction. So you’ll notice some little dots on the horizontal plain and and big OK at the top.

Obviously this only appears on the test lens but I can already see the potential in selling this  space to Nike and Viagra. Now that everyone shoots with a 10 megapixel camera, I reckon I can get my eyeball to look like a Nascar.

EYE OK - Version 2

Sisters!

Sisters

We went for a walk to the park with Les Boys during the magical hour where the light just does some awesome stuff and makes almsot all pictures fantastic.

Les Boys au Parc!

Frederic Jacques

Eric and I took the kids down to the parc while Chloe was with her tutor. After getting Les Boys bundled up and making sure their little monkey hats were pulled down tight over their ears, I grabbed the camera bag and a full cup of coffee and headed of to meet Eric. SwingsThe girls had a great time plying on the swings and in the sandbox.Even in their snow suits, the sand is irresitable. Eric even managed to take some stunning macros pics with his point and shoot. We were both kind of questionning if this was even possible without and Aperture setting, but Eric powers of figuring out small Gadgets proved the theory possible.

Swings

So this is the stunner he took:

Canon Point and Shoot DoFAnd this is the shot I took with my Pentax K200d in RAW with my manual 70-200mm Macro Zoom lens.

Ok so you can see that both shots have some and impressively shallow Depth of Field. Of course my shot was taken in RAW sor the colour capture is a little more vibrant and I was able to control the exposure a little better. But in truth, Eric’s shot is awesome and his composition using the Rule of Thirds is very impressive. So it just goes to show the camera does not make the shot, it’s still up to the eye.

On a seperate note, I am very proud to announce that Eric has officially joined the 2Fatdads.com crew and has already submitted his first article. Please take the time to read it here and have a party in his Comments.

Magnetic Attractions

Wedding Invite... My cousin, Mr Minolta, is getting married and I think that this may be his wedding invitation, he’s a little fridge magnet crazy. I couldn’t find the RSVP button, so I stuck it on my Internet Fridge in the hopes that it has some kind of RFID tag that phones home on magnetic contact to let him know we are saving the date. I’m also blogging this on my “Funny Website” so that he may pick up our reply in his morning RSS Feed. We’ll probably send a few emails and if all else fails, I’ll Skype my Mom who will call her sister and who will probably see her daughter whom I’m sure will pass on the message to her brother who I know talks on a regular basis with my cousin, Mr Minolta! (Extra points for tracing that arc perfectly in the comments.)

I’m also pretty sure there are about 200 angry and confused off  NEW AMEX and VISA users at his local post office who got there brand new cards de-magnetized.

Bounced Light and Banana Muffins

One of the best parts of having newborns in the house in the shear amount of baked goods enter our kitchen in lovely tins and Tupperware tubs and then leaving again in my lunch bag as I head to work. These are Jack Johnson Banana Muffins, it’s not his recipe but every time I eat them I want to drink coffee and listen to Jack Johnson.

Picture notes:
I have been playing around with bounced light and my manual lenses again. This was taken with the 50mm 2-22 prime lens for my K1000 (works very well with the K200d)
F2

100 ISO
And the flash was bouncing on the side wall of my office at 45degrees up and 60degrees to the left.
I still hate my on board flash and find the external one fiddly. But I am learning to take better shots. Also because I like the pointers Taximom gives me on my flash use, there was no processing done on this at all, however I did import it into Adobe Bridge in CS3 on my work Dell and not Aperture on the MacBook.

Fu! In the Year of the Ox!

Fu In the Year of The OX!

My partner at work got me this amazing Chinese calendar, which I have been twittering almost daily (follow @JohnnyCanuck) cause it’s just so damn funny. The calendar is from Hui Tack Wing Ginseng & Tea Inc and can be found in Montreal’s China Town. From what I can tell they are wishing every plenty of FU (luck, charm, prosperity: "all of the good things put together"). You might recall the 5 FU WA (mascots) from this summer’s Olympics. They are the babies of FU.

Have a great Year of the Ox!
